A great many buildings stand in Slovakia’s cities and towns that were designed in the best traditions of Functionalist architecture yet have been generally overlooked as the work of relatively obscure architects. One such instance is the intriguing and elegant building on Námestí Šoltésovej in Levice, by the Bratislava architect A. Drexler. The ribbon windows are continued boldly around the rounded corners, and the loggia-like inset of the central part is dominated by the all-glass cylindrical volume of the central staircase. In the ground floor were shops, with flats on the upper floor.
